We think we have something special, and our customers tell us the same. And it’s all down to the people.

We’re the heart of the community, ever evolving. Whether it’s creating and caring for our shop orchard, running artisan markets, running free activities for children, creating beautiful displays, or winning awards - we work together to make our shop and café a great place to be.

And if you have ideas for how to make it even better, please let us know.

Not everyone is shown above(sorry folks) - it is amazingly difficult to get all the photos. But their contribution is of course hugely welcomed.

  • Without our lovely volunteers, the shop could not exist. Volunteers range in age from 13 to 80+. Everyone is welcome, whether you are helping on the shop floor, or in the kitchen washing up, or serving or clearing tables, or supporting the shop orchard team, or even driving the buggy to take our waste to the nearby containers. If you have just two hours to spare once a month or once a week, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you!

  • On the shop side, we have mostly part-time staff, beautifully led by our manager Trish. Jamie is our wonderfully talented chef, working Wednesdays to Sundays, supported by Karen on Mondays and Tuesdays. If you are interested in a job with us, please get in touch!

  • We have a management committee who oversee the strategic direction of the shop and café, but the day-to-day management is undertaken by our lovely manager Trish.

  • We have member shareholders who pay a nominal £10 contribution: the share supports the shop and enables shareholders to attend the AGM and vote. New members are very welcome. For more information, please see our members page (link below).

Are you lost? We do not want to lose touch with our shareholder members, so if you have moved since first buying your share in 2011, please send your new address and email address to secretary@hncs.co.uk

  • The shop is a new build, positioned in a beautiful courtyard. It opened on March 26th, 2011 as a result of a village parish plan open meeting held in 2006 at which 80% of the people requested a shop. It replaced the original village shop that closed in 1998 because it was no longer viable.

Backed by the wider community, a small group of dedicated volunteers spent some years researching what was possible, and it is thanks to their vision and determination that the shop is as it is today - the heart of Hampstead Norreys.

In 2016 we extended the shop to create a café and kitchen, and a much needed customer loo. That we were able to do this was due to support by shareholders, volunteers and customers, and very generous grants from Power to Change and Greenham Common Trust.

  • Situated in beautiful countryside, there is seating outside the shop, both in the front and back. Nearby are beautiful bluebell woods and the Dean Meadow, with a children’s play area and adult gym equipment.
